This class incurs a $100 supply fee This class can be separated but students have to take UP501 befoe UP502 Students experience a comprehensive and exhilarating hands-on program learning basic to advanced methods for cornice fabrication. Students use power tools and a variety of materials to cut and construct several full-size cornices and several small samples for a complete portfolio display kit. Beginning with a straight bottom cornice with plywood construction and progressing to shaped top and bottom cornices with bendable fiberboard construction, students explore creative upholstery techniques. In addition, the instructor shares measuring and pricing tips to prepare each student for the challenges of bay window angles and corner windows. Advanced topics included arched cornices with shaped dust caps, pagodas, labrequins, and embellishment techniques such as welt cord, decorative braid cord, shaped banding, shirred banding, ant-trails, cut-outs, button tufting, foam rolls and multiple welt trim. Students learn how to translate scale drawings and create perfect templates for complicated styles and participate in creative brainstorming and development of interesting new techniques using the latest materials.
